I've been playing with this guy for ages, but I haven't managed to finish him, and I think I need a little kick in the proverbial behind to stay on said behind and actually work on this fic.  Thus, a tiny preview.

Shaun really hated this sweater. It was a bit tight, he hated the color, and the sleeves were too long. And, of course, it made him itchy. He wasn’t sure why he still had it, much less why he was wearing it. It wasn’t like he had to wear everything Donna had given him, especially now.

Donna stirred beside him and he smiled. She likely wouldn’t sleep for long, but at least she was resting. He leaned over, brushing his lips against her cheek. “Love you,” he whispered. Donna shivered and turned away, and he settled another blanket over her, digging his mobile out of his pocket. “I love you,” he said again, then he took a deep breath and punched a few buttons.

“This is the Doctor,” he heard a second later. “Who are you, and how did you get this number?”

Interested?  Yes?  No?  Have no idea what's going on?  Do tell!

I have nothing to do today, I can't leave the house, and I haven't been able to write fic (with the exception of a couple of things for great_tales) since, I don't know, forever or so ago.  Thus, I'm going to do a silly fic meme.  Humor me.  Ask questions.  If I'm not able to write again soon, I may go insane.

Post a random sentence (or three) from every WIP you're currently working on, even if it's very short. Then invite people to ask questions about your WIPs. With any luck, you'll get talking about writing, and the motivation to take that WIP one step closer to completion will appear as if by magic!

I have a ridiculous amount of fics to play with, so I'm just going to go by fandom and see what happens.

Abandon hope all ye who read fic here....Collapse )

And then of course there are the ones that I have no intention whatsoever of finishing, either because they're now moot or because they're horrid beyond repair. So yeah. That's lovely.  Thoughts?

Title: What if I said it was personal?
Fandom: BBC!Sherlock
Characters: John, Sherlock (mention of Lestrade)
Prompt: Written at the behest of the incredibly pushy goldvermilion87 *shakes fist* for challenge 101 (80 word fics!) over at great_tales
Spoilers: None, though an outfit (of sorts) from ASiB is mentioned
Notes: Both my first text!fic and my first Sherlock fic.  This should be interesting....

New case.

No. –SH

You haven’t heard details.

Not interested. –SH

Lestrade asked you to come.

Tell him no.  Be as rude as you can manage. –SH

Wouldn’t you rather be rude in person?

I’ll only come if I don’t have to put on pants. –SH

Always. –SH

What if I said it was personal?

I would say to find your own dates. –SH

Surely you can’t be serious.

I’m not going to answer that. Good night John. –SH

15 January 2012 @ 09:58 pm

Goodness, that was loud.  My apologies.  Please allow me to express a more coherent sentiment.

Seriously, I'm just going to go scream in the corner for five minutes.  The acting, the dialogue, the amazing.

goldvermilion87, I do not even.  I.  Do not.  Even.  How will we last until next season?!?!

I'm going to watch it again before I go to bed, so no actual thoughts as of yet, but I do feel the need to say one more thing.

I know some of you lovely people have my cell number, and that's grand.  You have it because I like you or because you plan to use it to remotely detonate an anti-sparkle bomb underneath Stephenie Meyer's bed, which would also be okay with me.

However, if you live outside of the US (and possibly Canada), please for the love of God do not text me.  The rates are insane, and I'm charged for each message I receive, not just the ones I send.  I'm super poor, and my finances are super fragile, and every time I get a text from someone overseas I can seriously hear Phone Company of Choice mocking my pain.  If it's urgent, I don't mind, but if you just want to say hi or ask me what's up, please do not text me, because I will probably smite you for costing me so much money.  That's what e-mail or LJ or facebook or whatever is for, because it's free, and I can talk to people from any-the-frak-where without paying a cent.

Pretty much don't text me if you're outside the US, or if you do, send me money.  Lots and lots of money.  Kthnxdonttextbai.

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

I have webs at home now, and should be able to get back to you, whoever you might be, in a timely fashion.  If it seems like I've blown you off, it's probably because I promised to get back to you on something but it didn't fit into the attention span of my internet use I've been accustomed to lately, which is mostly smash and dash, download Fringe, and leave.

Anyway, I'll be back now, and will try to catch up on all the things I've missed.  This includes but is not limited to....

All of this stuff!Collapse )

In any case, I am back, and will hopefully be around a bit more from now on, or at least commenting and playing more.

"Warning labels? Mere suggestions, Aspirin, dear."
Jennifers, you'll love this.

Dear authors who name Other!Ten John Noble:

I bloody love you.  I used to think you were just too lazy to name him anything else.  Then I realized you had invented the most amazing crossover ever, albeit unintentionally.  Confused, are you?  It's really quite simple (as most hilarious things are).

You want me to think of this....

Hey, you fine people, go check this out!  It's a challenge to write a (gen) fic in six words.  It's super fun!

You could also, you know, join the community if you want.  They're still sort of small, but they've got Who (mostly me), White Collar, Star Trek stuff, Rings, Sherlock, Phantom, and a bunch of others.  It's a lovely little place.  I think I'll just snuggle in and stay forever.  :D

Also, oi, tiny one.  Yes, you.  I've been listening to Rings all morning.  ^_^

So little miss Flo has gone from the eljays, which is sad.  *misses her*  The relevant part here?  All the things she posted in dd_icontest are gone.  Our first 18 challenges....are gone.  If I hadn't saved the winners (for a special project for the comm) they would be gone.  That's almost 1/4 of the things we've done on the community, just....nonexistent.  So much work just gone....

I didn't even realize it until I was tidying up the tags today and suddenly realized that the first 18 or so challenges had no entries for them.  Gah!

Man, why does LJ let you delete all your community posts as well as your personal ones?  I mean I get it, I really do, but for someone who was a community moderator/owner it doesn't make sense.  Half your community could disappear with you!  Ridiculous!

Well, I guess I'll spend my day fixing things up at dd_icontest then, won't I?  :/

I'd like to make it clear that I'm not mad at Flo or anything, just in case someone thinks I am.  I just don't like that all the stuff she posted when she started the community is gone, including a page-a-mod post that I've been linking to for ages now.  Of course I'd rather just have Flo back.  I haven't heard from her in ages, like ages ages.  Does anyone know if she's doing okay?  I miss her.  <3

This is a really long “note” to a former LJ friend of mine, sykira, because there are things I need to say that she won’t let me say otherwise, and I need it to be public so people are aware of what’s actually been going on. I’m reluctant to post this, but the friendship is gone, and there’s likely no going back. Thus, I’m going to straighten things out once and for all. See you in hell.

Please note: I’ve omitted almost all private information, and have kept all personal attacks I have received out of this post, because my point is to clear the air, not cry about all the times I’ve been insulted. I have additional correspondence to further my case, but I don’t plan to release it unless asked because of the private nature of some of the communication. All quotes are from either journal entries of Sykira's or from e-mails I have exchanged with her; additional quotes were used with permission of respective journal owners. I have quoted nothing that was not made available to me by Sykira herself. Names were omitted to protect the irrelevant or innocent.

Also note: I've informed Sykira that I've posted this, so she is well aware. There's no reason to sneak around.

You have now sent me several notes of the most amiable nature detailing how my journal is to be run. Hey, wait a minute....Collapse )

ETA: Thank you to all who responded to this entry, especially the brave little nuggets who were afraid of what might happen to them if I unscreened their comments.  I appreciate your thoughts, and I will, as promised, be keeping your responses private.  Once again, thank you for sharing your own experiences and opinions on the matter.  I truly appreciate it.

Title: Someone Remembered
Characters: The Doctor (any regeneration after 11), Shaun, mentions of Donna
Pairings: Donna/Shaun, though it can also easily be interpreted as Doctor/Donna.
Summary: Shaun and the Doctor meet while they’re both visiting Donna.
Word Count: ~1,000
Rating/Warnings: Safe but sad. Mentions of past major character death.
Prompt: Travellers’ Tales prompt #11 (incomplete) at doctor_donna
Setting/Spoilers: This is set any time after the End of Time for Shaun and Donna (though I’m thinking it’s been a few years, both since the last time we canonically saw them and since Donna’s death). The Doctor’s timeline is unspecific, but he’s Twelve or later, so make of that what you will.  (My head canon is that he's Thirteen, especially if there's the old regeneration limit, but it's not stated which Doctor he is.)
Notes: Hey, Jen, I remembered your birthday. (Sadly, angst is what came of me trying to write you something. Sorry, sweetheart, but I hope you can still enjoy it a bit. Also, this is bizarrely late. Love me anyway?)
More Notes: Unending thanks to doctorsgirl26 for listening to my flailing about this, and to a certain tiny someone who knows who she is for helping me patch this up.
Even More Notes: This contains references to the song “Lucy” by Skillet. If you know the song, you’ll probably see obvious parallels, but if you’ve never heard the song you’ll miss nothing. (This has nothing to do with the actual “theme” of the song, but there are a couple of distinct matches here and there because, well, I had it on loop and it stuck. Bah.)

Characters: Donna, the Doctor (10)
Summary: No one else could possibly be this bored.
Timey Wimey Factor: Set during Partners in Crime, when Donna and the Doctor were stuck in the bathroom and supply closet respectively.
Prompt: Written for the Missing Scenes Challenge over here at doctor_donna.
Word Count: Two 250 ficlets for a total of 500 words.
Notes: Written in a few minutes and originally posted here and here from my phone.

Title: All that Matters
Characters: Wilf, Rose, Donna
Summary: For just a moment, Wilf sees an old friend.
Rating/Warnings: Safe for all, but spoilers for the end of season four (just in case).
Word Count: 300
Prompt: “Wilf runs into Rose.”
Notes: It’s very short (as you can see from the word count) but as way of explanation, I keep thinking that Rose wouldn’t just misfire the cannon (a la Partners in Crime) once. I think she would bounce around all sorts of times and places. What if she ran into Wilf in the future? (This is also mostly short because I couldn’t seem to write Rose, so I cut out what little dialogue I had between her and Wilf because it all seemed very stilted and unnatural.  In the end, I actually like it better without her saying anything.)

Nothing"s changed.Collapse )

Top....oh, crap, a lot....things I dislike about my fics.  Because if I’m going to make a post about what bothers me in other people’s fics, I should treat myself the same.  Any time I say ‘you’ I’m talking to myself, at least theoretically.  Also, this list is far from complete, and I do welcome any concrit type comments if you notice other trends in my fics you think I could improve upon.

Bless me, Whedon, for I have ficced....Collapse )

P.S.  I’ll never stop adding to this list.  Please comment if you fancy it and help me add stuff so I can improve.  Seriously.  If I don’t know I’m doing something wrong, I’ll never fix it, and I want my writing to be more enjoyable.  Thanks very much!  :)

I've been meaning to do this for ages, just to let off some steam (especially since fanficrants is far too full of trolls, which is their loss, I suppose), but I never got around to it.  And now I have!  Huzzah?

Top ten things that will probably make me not read your Who fic.

Well, any fic, but most of them are Whoniverse specific.  They're really in no particular order, so it's not like the first one bothers me the most; I just sort of typed them out as I thought of them.

So, erm, Mexican Independence Day is in September (right?).  What does Cinco de Mayo have to do with patriotism?  Lamesauce.

Also, I hate the government.  Does that make me not patriotic?  Aw, shucks.  Oh well, I guess I'll just sit back and watch them waste all our money and kill babies and encourage everyone to have sex with whomever happens to walk by and, oh yeah, waste even more of our money, until there's no country left to be patriotic toward anyway.  Sounds like a plan, right?  ;)
